Prayaschitto (প্রায়শ্চিত্ত)
Drama, Design & Directed by: Anjan Kanjilal
Duration : Language : Bengali
Set on the backdrop of early 20th century, D L Ray’s Prayashchitto (Atonement) gives an overview of the society of that era, wherein the influence of the West was taking a toll on the calm and balanced life of the Babus. Added to the societal issues, the playwright has punched in his satirical outlook towards Michael Madhusudan Datta’s character, with whom he shared an equation which was far from being cordial. The play has its own share of bitterness towards the Western culture and has used a fair dose of comedy to emphasize the same, while simultaneously uplifting the tradition and values of our motherland. Out of only 6 farces scripted by D L Ray, prayaschitta definitely carves its own niche because of the subtle representation of characters and incidents of that period.
